Adrenaline Monkey Brings Family Adventure and Entertainment to SPIRE Academy

05/04/2023

Scheduled to open May 2023

Adrenaline Monkey, an indoor adventure park and performance training center, will be opening its third location and second Ohio location inside SPIRE Academy in Geneva. Once open, it will offer family-friendly active entertainment and, more importantly, approachable adventures to escape the stresses of everyday life. Adventures will include ninja warrior obstacle courses, vertical adventures, warped walls, and a space that can accommodate SPIRE tournament and event spectators looking for some fun, local adventure-seekers, campers, parties and much more. The facility will have adventure zones for customers (aka warriors) of all ages, skills, and abilities to embrace their inner warrior and, in the case of the adult warriors, to emancipate their inner wild child.

The initial concept for Adrenaline Monkey started with Geneva native and founder Denise Carkhuff’s twin daughters. Inspired by the “Ninja Warrior” obstacle courses as seen in the American Ninja Warrior television program and contestant Kacy Catanzaro’s struggles due to her small size, the girls yearned for a space in their community to allow them to be like the ninja warrior stars featured on the program. Carkhuff was inspired to provide an establishment where people of all shapes, sizes, and ages could enjoy the entertainment side of obstacle courses. “Adrenaline Monkey is not only for athletes, but for anyone willing to emancipate their wild child on approachable adventures,” says Carkhuff. “We’re here to provide a safe and exciting environment for anyone looking to keep themselves and their children active or just experience an adrenaline rush.”

The original Adrenaline Monkey opened in June 2018 in Cleveland, OH. Adrenaline Monkey distinguishes itself from other family entertainment centers by providing more than entertainment, and by keeping the whole family active.  Always entertaining with purpose, every detail creates a truly unique experience designed to create lifelong memories, develop fundamental movement and sports skills, and create healthy habits that other traditional forms of family entertainment do not. “Our goal is to not just entertain but to also entertrain through classes, clinics, and competitions,” Carkhuff explains. “Customers (aka warriors) will be having so much fun that they won’t notice that they are becoming super-fit super athletes. SPIRE is the perfect environment to grow this piece of our mission and vision.”

“SPIRE is excited to welcome Adrenaline Monkey to campus, as this will be a fantastic addition to the culture for our academy students, staff, camp members, and visitors. In our quest to develop our academy students in the most well-rounded ways, this partnership offers a more adventurous approach to training and conditioning,” says Jonathan Ehrenfeld, SPIRE Managing Partner.

Beginning May 2023, Adrenaline Monkey will be committed to serving the local Geneva and Geneva-on-the-Lake community through youth programs (inclusive of an after-school program, camps, and clinics), cross-training local athletes, employment, fundraisers, and other opportunities.
