SPIRE is hosting Become One, an on-campus women’s basketball camp from July 12th to July 20th. This event brings together sixty talented young Canadian basketball players who have the privilege of coming to SPIRE to utilize the Academy’s world-class facilities and train with renowned, former Olympian Krista Phillips.

Olympian Krista Phillips, a consultant at SPIRE, expressed her enthusiasm about hosting Become One, stating, “It’s so exciting to have these girls on campus because we’re looking for athletes who want to better their opportunities. SPIRE Academy is a great destination for someone who wants the opportunity and the exposure to do more.”

SPIRE recognizes that basketball’s roots run deep in Canada as the sport was invented by Canadian-American James Naismith in 1891, and the Academy is honored to provide a platform for those athletes to develop their skills further. Reflecting on the upcoming camp, Phillips, who is Canadian herself and represented her country in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Olympic Games shared more of her perspective saying, “We have the opportunity to be the bridge for international athletes who are dreaming about going to college in America. That’s the destination. So, we have to make it easier for these players to reach their destination, and the pathway to that is through SPIRE.”

With a coaching staff that possesses firsthand knowledge of navigating the pathway to collegiate basketball in the United States, Become One sets out to prepare student athletes for their future aspirations. Phillips said, “At SPIRE you have coaches who have been down that road and understand…Hopefully, this camp becomes a staple for the participants.”

According to Phillips, the athletes attending this camp will be able to immerse themselves in the “SPIRE way.” She further emphasized the camp’s significance saying, “My objective first and foremost was to welcome all these Canadian basketball players to America. These camps inspire you, and this is a place that’s available to you.”
