It was a tense faceoff on the competitive “Ascent” map as SPIRE’s VALORANT team fought tooth and nail for their hard-earned victory. This win has significantly bolstered their momentum towards the upcoming playoffs.

Developed and Published by Riot Games, VALORANT is a hero-based first-person game with a focus on 5 versus 5 team play. It’s become a staple of the professional esports scene since its release in June 2020, after Riot launched a tournament called “First Strike” to establish its foundation on the scene.

The talented players at SPIRE have been hard at work honing their skills for the upcoming playoffs, which are looking more likely after the weekend’s events unfolded. They are currently enjoying an impressive 9-1 record, thanks to the win—a win for which competitor Derrick Polk is largely responsible. Though victory would not have been possible without the contributions of every team member, Polk’s expert marksmanship with the mouse and keyboard brought about the game-winning play, which you can see here.

From the looks of it, our VALORANT team will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. We can’t wait to see the plays they have up their sleeves in future tournaments!
