SPIRE Institute & Academy (IA), the elite athletic academy and private school in Ohio, recently announced a basketball clinic featuring Phil Handy, a 3-time NBA Champion as an Assistant Coach, to take place in mid-September. The Phil Handy Fall Clinic will give basketball enthusiasts, from 3rd to 12th grades, the opportunity to not only meet the veteran NBA coach, but also to experience an elite, professional-level training and instruction session with him as well. Coaches are also encouraged to participate in this unique basketball clinic.
Coach Handy, currently an Assistant Coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, has worked with the biggest names on the court, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. He also helped lead three separate NBA franchises to World Championship titles, including the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, Toronto Raptors in 2019 and the Lakers in 2020. After his own successful collegiate career at the University of Hawaii, he moved on to enjoy success on the international stage in France, Italy, Spain, Australia, England, Israel and Germany.
SPIRE Director of Basketball Jeff Javorek is excited for Coach Handy’s role in the upcoming training clinic. “It’s a chance for our student athletes and any players and coaches who would like to join us to meet a real hero in the basketball world, and to learn from the best of the best. SPIRE strives to help our athletes achieve success, and we pride ourselves on exposing them to the leaders in their sport.”
The Phil Handy Fall Clinic will be held at SPIRE on September 18th, with two sessions:
The enrollment fee for this clinic is $80 for players, and $25 for coaches. The clinic will feature a chance to meet Coach Handy, an opportunity to experience professional-level training and instruction and a camp t-shirt.
