SPIRE Academy is pleased to have hosted the second annual Prep Shootout. The school’s Post Grad team participated along with 4 teams from Ohio and Pennsylvania. 

This event proved to be a day of high-intensity basketball action. Every team played three games, providing an ideal platform to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience while preparing for the upcoming season.

This year’s event ultimately proved to be an exclusive gathering of Prep teams. This offered a unique opportunity for seasoned coaches and up-and-coming talent to come together and hone their skills ahead of the official season.

Jeffrey Gonzalez, Director of Basketball Operations at SPIRE Academy, reported on the success of the event saying, “All of the coaches had a great time and look forward to meeting again as the season progresses. Coaches felt that this was a great experience to get their teams on the right track as the season is right around the corner.”

The outcomes of these games were impressive, and Gonzalez reported that SPIRE Academy clearly has some high performing level athletes to keep an eye including: 

• MJ (Matthew) Rayner a Post Grad player who, “had a great weekend at our shootout. He was able to showcase his skills including his scoring off of the dribble, defensive tenacity and ability to lead the team as a point guard.” 
• Zack Vencill is another of the school’s Post Grad players. “He showcased his elite shooting ability all day knocking down 10-15 three pointers in 3 games. His defensive ability has gotten better every single day, and that also showcased throughout the weekend.”

There’s no doubt that these two players will play a big role in helping the school’s Post Grad team succeed through the remainder of the season.
