Venezuelan swimmer Lismar began by talking about her foray into swimming at age 8, wanting to study dentistry and communications, her love of Crossfit and working out and her preference for butterfly – then the interview came alive when she talked about The Olympic Youth Games in Buenos Aires in 2018. “Despite missing three planes to get there, it was super exciting. When I broke my first national record, I made the mark for The Olympics.”
“Then I moved to SPIRE to train, and train some more, before returning to Venezuala. The experience at SPIRE was unlike any other,” said Lismar. “SPIRE Academy was determined to be the best place for me to train. My coaches at SPIRE taught me to train harder to achieve my goals.
“Lismar’s ability to continuously embrace commitment, discipline and perseverance will serve her and her country well as she pursues her goals of Olympic glory,” said SPIRE Director of Swimming Thad Shultz. “Lismar is a wonderful young woman who brought a positive attitude along with a big smile to SPIRE every single day.”
“My goal now is to compete in The Junior Olympic Games and eventually in The Olympic Games,” said Lismar. The butterfly specialist in 50 and 100-meters was ready to fight for the ticket to Tokyo 2020 before quarantine imposed by COVID-19. Despite not being able to train, she plans to return to her peak performance level again and to look for more records to set.
For now, you’ll find Lismar doing one of her favorite things – training (running) with her dogs in Venezuela. We’ll be watching your next record breaking swim Lismar!
